Think Global – Act Local is a phrase that is used in a wide range of contexts to emphasise that as citizens, organisations and countries we operate in a worldwide context, while remembering that our day to day activities remain critical at a community level.
There are many examples to demonstrate that policing in Scotland is affected by international matters, migration of communities, organised crime, European legislation, electronic communication, etc. There is also strong evidence from the many study tours that visit us, that policing experience in Scotland has much to offer policy development and procedures in other countries. There is also much that can be learned from others.
The programme, run in collaboration with the Scottish Police College, examined the range of European and international structures which exist, what is being done to improve operational police cooperation in Europe, the impact on Scottish Policing, the steps being taken to ensure Scotland contributes to policy development and learning, and the opportunities emerging for the Scottish Police Service.
