Profile

Having retired from the police service in 2010, Bruce established a training and educational consultancy specialising in law enforcement agencies (www.learningandsolutions.co.uk).

During the latter part of his police service Bruce spent 8 years aligning police training at the Scottish Police College to wider academic achievement through the Scottish Credit & Qualifications framework.  As a consequence of this work, police officers in Scotland are able to progress a professional career in the police, while also enhancing their academic qualifications.  In addition, Bruce and his team achieved ?Credit Rating? status for the Scottish Police College which allows the College to apply academic credit and the levelling of training and qualifications against the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework.

The experience of developing training and professional education opportunities for police officers In Scotland has since been transferred to South Asia where Bruce is involved with the police services of Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

In Sri Lanka, Bruce is Project Leader for the Sri Lanka Police Community Policing project, introducing the philosophy of Community Policing in all 9 provinces of Sri Lanka.  This exciting project has seen the introduction of practical community based projects to communities throughout the Country, together with the creation of a strategic and supportive infrastructure within the police organisation.

In the Maldives, Bruce is a Consultant and Academic Adviser to the recently established Institute of Security & Law Enforcement Studies (ISLES), an arm of the Maldives Police Service responsible for developing and enhancing the professional development of police and security officers in the Maldives.  The development plan for ISLES in 2012 is to develop its own degree programme and to build links with similar organisations in the UK and elsewhere.

Bruce is a Fellow of the Scottish Police College and a Senior Visiting Fellow of the School of Education, University of Stirling.
