I am a retired police officer (Lothian and Borders Police) and sometime police historian. My PhD thesis (The University of Edinburgh, 2016) examined the organisational and operational changes that occurred in the City of Edinburgh Police during the Second World War within the context of the centralised direction of the home front and a specific combination of strategic police decisions and broader political, social, economic, and religious factors.

Policing during the Second World War; the creation and development, particualrly in Scotland, of systems of police in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; the Scottish Police Federation and the Scottish Police Council, 1919-1948.
