Grant Funding Announcement £40,000 Awarded under SIPR’s Policing Contemporary Social Harms and Challenges grant scheme

Grant Funding Announcement | £40,000 Awarded

We are delighted to announce that approximately £40,000 has been awarded across three innovative projects under SIPR’s “Policing Contemporary Social Harms and Challenges” grant scheme.

This scheme supports timely, policy-relevant research that addresses some of the most pressing issues facing policing in Scotland today — from community relationships to national security and public health.

Awarded Projects:

🔔 Dr Ben Collier (The University of Edinburgh)

“Never Mind the Bollards: Exploring the Consequences of the New Protect Duty for Policing and Security in Scotland” This project tackles the critical challenge of preventing harm from terror attacks while upholding the principles of democratic policing.

🔔 Professor Nadine Dougall (Edinburgh Napier University)

“Extending the Evaluation of Return Discussions for Missing Persons with Dementia” Building on existing work, this research explores how Return Discussions can support better outcomes and resource use in cases involving vulnerable missing persons.

🔔Dr Maureen McBride (University of Glasgow)

“Relationships between Police Scotland and the Scottish Catholic Community” This study will examine the dynamics between Police Scotland and the Catholic community, aiming to deepen understanding and inform more inclusive policing practices.

👏 Congratulations to all the recipients! We look forward to sharing the findings and impact of this work with our partners across policing, academia, and the wider community.
