SIPR Director to Chair New Independent Advisory Group on emerging technologies

Dr Elizabeth Aston, SIPR Director, has accepted an invitation from Mr Humza Yousaf MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Justice, to Chair a new Independent Advisory Group (IAG) on New and Emerging Technologies in Policing, tasked with scoping the legal and ethical issues arising.

As Chair, Dr Aston will bring her knowledge and expertise in policing and the role of technology, and will consider not only to the potential impact of new devices, but also new data handling or processing techniques.

Although remit is still to be finalised and membership yet to be decided, it is hoped that the group’s first meeting will take place before the end of 2020. We look forward to Dr Aston’s leadership for this significant piece of work and to SIPR’s role in supporting public awareness of this important subject matter.
