Focus of Grant
SIPR is providing £5,000 to support dissemination and impact efforts for policing research.
A maximum of £1,000 is available per application.
One of SIPR’s four key objectives is support knowledge exchange and dissemination to enable evidence-informed policy and practice. This can be achieved through facilitating events and enhancing knowledge exchange tools.
We are acutely aware of the increasing financial pressures being experienced by policing researchers and practitioners and are keen to support the continued sharing of research findings and best practices in order to create pathways to impact.
Given this, we have redeveloped and increased existing funding streams to create a more fit-for-purpose fund that will support a greater range of knowledge exchange and dissemination activities that can include any collaborative, creative endeavour that translates knowledge and research into impact in society and the economy. KE includes a set of activities, processes and skills that enable close collaboration between universities and partner organisations to deliver benefits (KE Concordat).
Eligibility
Applications are welcomed from researchers within the SIPR member Higher Education Institutes as well as our policing partners. We are happy to consider applications including external organisations, however, this work must support policing relevant knowledge exchange and be led by either our HEI or policing partner members.
Projects are expected to align with the SIPR Strategic Research Priorities and where relevant should describe how they will support delivery of the Strategic Police Plan commitments.
Use of Funds
The types of activities which may be funded under this fund may include:
- Events
Funding or co-funding to support the delivery of knowledge exchange events (for example, conferences, symposia, workshops etc.) - Travel support
Support for researchers/ practitioners to attend local/ national/ international knowledge exchange events /conferences where they are presenting (partial of full funding for travel and accommodation subject to travel policies). Priority will be given to supporting participation at events which involve non-academic audiences, particularly in the event of a strong demand for funds. - Partnership building
Participation in or delivery of activities that strengthen relationships with strategic external partners for example, policy roundtables, stakeholder and public engagement fora. - Dissemination
In addition to SIPRs support to create and produce publications, briefing papers, blogs etc., funds can be applied for to support activities which maximise the potential for research impact in any sector. This may include developing graphics/ infographics or short videos to share research findings; creating training packages; developing or participating in podcasts etc. - Miscellaneous

Value
A total of £5,000 will be available for the remainder of the academic year 2024/25. The maximum grant value from SIPR per application will be (including VAT), though smaller applications are welcome.
We particularly welcome proposals which include co-funding from other sources (which may bring the total application value above £1,000).
Applying
Applications are welcome throughout the year and there is no deadline. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the allocation of funding within this scheme is exhausted.

Assessment
All applications will be considered by the SIPR Director and or/ representatives of the SIPR Leadership Team.
Each application will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Proposed value for money;
- The activity’s ability to generate impacts or create innovative pathways to impact within policing research, practice, or policy;
- The extent to which the proposed project is aligned with SIPR’s Strategic Research Themes;
- Perceived value for money.
SIPR will aim to respond with an outcome to each application within four weeks of receipt.
Terms
Only one application is permitted per year from the same applicant for this call.
Successful applicants will be required to enter into a funding agreement with SIPR. Funding will be provided in full at the commencement of the project.
A condition of funding will include acknowledgement of SIPR funding in all dissemination materials produced as a result (including branding on slides, mention in presentations etc).
Additionally all recipients would be required to submit a one-page summary of the activity funded to be included in the upcoming SIPR report.
