Event Briefing

Speaker: Professor Nick Tilley (Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, UCL). This was a joint SCCJR / SIPR event.

Professor Tilley reported on a Home Office-funded study looking at the impact of organised crime on local businesses in three carefully chosen case-study areas (West Midlands, East Midlands and London), including: issues around survey methodology; issues around business crime and how it shades into potentially more serious crime, and the less than straightforward relationship between local legitimate entrepreneurs and rather less legitimate ones; issues around police intelligence, community intelligence and how the two can be related to each other and to survey data.
